Reinfection - some super quick info specific to those who may have had COVID.
I have gotten quite a few questions on this and seen some misinformation floating around so I wanted to just provide some super quick info in this short update.
If you had COVID - you can still get infected with a different variant. That said, natural immunity is pretty dang strong - but like vaccine-based immunity, natural immunity provides varying levels of protection against the different variants. So having had one does not protect you against getting all.
We now know you can become infected with more than one type of COVID at a time. A woman in Belgium was the first known person to be infected with two different variants at the same time. You can read a news report of her story here: https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2021/07/12/1015242810/belgian-woman-infected-2-covid-variants
If you had COVID and are experiencing long-haulers, you may benefit from vaccination, it seems to be reducing symptoms among those who are suffering from long COVID. So if this is you, talk to your doctor.
Vaccine-based immunity is providing stronger immunity for most people. Not for everyone, but for most. And vaccine-based immunity seems to last longer, natural immunity seems to start fading after about 8 months.
I am posting some articles below for further reading for those who are interested.
